Even though the NBA season is currently on hold, LeBron James is not letting that stop him from striving to be the best. The Los Angeles Lakers’ MVP is dedicated to staying in peak physical condition during this break, as he prepares for the season to resume. Despite being restricted to his home, James, like many other elite athletes, is sticking to a rigorous training routine to ensure he is ready to dominate when the basketball courts are once again open for business.
During the lockdown, NBA icon LeBron James has been pushing himself to his physical boundaries through intense training sessions with the LA Lakers.
Wincing in discomfort, the basketball player, who is 35 years old and plays for the Lakers, powered through a challenging workout routine.
James then proceeded to the weight section to focus on building muscle in his upper body and strengthening his core.
Using social media, the legendary basketball player wanted to give his 63 million Instagram followers a glimpse of the hard work he puts in. He shared videos of himself working out shirtless with resistance cables in his garden, showing off his dedication and determination. After that, he moved on to lifting weights to focus on strengthening his core and upper body muscles. In the caption, James encouraged his followers to join him in working hard, using the hashtags #StriveForGreatness. Later that evening, he touched the hearts of many by sharing that he was reminiscing about playing with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant while watching old footage at home.
Later that evening, James settled in to watch some memorable footage from the 2008 Olympic Games. He was looking back at the time he and Bryant represented the United States at the Beijing Olympics, facing off against Spain in the gold medal match.
As James watched, he saw the intense action unfold on the screen. The US team took the lead, and the cameras captured the moment when he embraced Bryant after a crucial basket was made. It was a touching memory of their time together on the court.
Tragically, Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on January 26. It was a heartbreaking loss for the basketball community and beyond.
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic causing disruptions in the sports world, the NBA recently announced an agreement with the National Basketball Players Association. Starting from May 15, 25 percent of each player’s salary would be withheld due to the shutdown of the league. This agreement was put in place to account for any unforeseen circumstances, like the pandemic, potentially impacting the rest of the regular season.
Fans were moved to tears when James honored the memory of Kobe Bryant during his celebration. According to ESPN, the money will be kept in escrow and returned to players if all the remaining regular season games are played. However, if only a portion of the season is completed, the payout will be adjusted accordingly based on the number of games completed.
ESPN also mentioned that salary cuts will carry on into the first two months of the 2020-21 NBA season. With the NBA not having played a game since March 11, the timeline for its return to action remains uncertain.
